Sunset on the Nile River in Jinja
I was fortunate to capture this sunset on the Nile River in Jinja, Uganda. The government is building a damn in this area so these views will not be around for longer.
Colorful Beans From Local Market
Beans make up a large part of the Ugandan diet. I captured this photo at a local street market in Fort Portal.
This lady is raking snails back and forth in the sun. Not sure exactly why. I suppose she’s drying them out in the sun.
Great Rift Valley
The Great Rift Valley in East Africa runs about 6,000km from Lebanon to Mozambique.
The Marabou Stork can be found around fishing villages and garbage dumps around western Africa. They are 3-4ft tall with a 12ft wing span.
Fort Portal Evening Market
A man looking at the different fruit and vegetable options at one of the local street markets in Fort Portal.
Dusty Road in Fort Portal
A guy pushing bananas on a bicycle in Fort Portal. I notice many people use bicycle more for transporting cargo than for riding.
Friends Climbing a Tree
I saw these boys climbing a tree near a village in Fort Portal. This reminds me of climbing trees with my friends at my grandmother’s house.
Crater Lake in Fort Portal
Fort Portal is the home of 42 crater lakes in the area. Some of them are inaccessible but they all provide beautiful green landscapes.
Sifting Through the Dump
At the end of the day for the street markets, everyone throws their trash on an always-smoldering landfill in the middle of the street. These freakishly huge, totally creepy, 3-4 foot tall scavenger birds, (and street children), pick through the landfill for anything usable or edible.
I pulled over and captured this photo of the Ugandan countryside as I was driving back from Fort Portal to Kampala.
Locals hanging out at a local store near the village.
Fort Portal to Kampala
A vast view of Fort Portal seen driving back to Kampala.
Freedom of Photography in Uganda
Uganda is considered the “Pearl of Africa” and for good reason. The people are very welcoming and eager to show off their country. The Nile River provides some of the best white water rafting that I’ve ever been on, category 5. You can’t go wrong spending time here.
