Freedom of Photography Non-Profits

Throughout my travels for business, volunteering, or just leisure, I've worked with many wonderful people doing great things to help one another. Below are organizations that I have volunteered with personally and can vouch for their commitment and validity. We encourage you to reach out and support them for volunteering efforts or if you have financial or material contributions.

Esahn Family Assistance, Thailand

I worked as a photographer with the Esahn Family Assistance program to cover the 2013 Family Care Foundation Special Olympics in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

Esahn Family Assistance operates in the North East of Thailand, having established long-term and on-going community services projects including:

  • Counseling and providing drug awareness to “street girls” who have been rescued from lives of forced prostitution.
  • Coordinating charitable efforts in the local community.
  • Participation in organizing events for local chapter of Special Olympics.
  • Teaching English to the underprivileged, and in needy provincial schools.
  • Providing food and other aid to underprivileged children who live in the main slum areas of the city, as well as upcountry.
  • Distributing educational literature and audio-visual tools, as well as providing advice to parents regarding the upbringing of their children.
  • Counseling boys at a juvenile delinquent center, preparing them for re-entry into society, including teaching them English and music skills.

Mission Rebuild Nepal, Nepal

After the 7.8 and 7.9 magnitude earthquakes of April and May 2015, I moved to Nepal to help build temporary and permanent houses in the Sindhupalchok District of central Nepal, about three hours north of Kathmandu, near the Kathmandu Valley. I also offered my services as a photographer.

Mission Rebuild Nepal is a non profit 501 C (3) organization registered in the state of Virginia. Its mission is to raise and manage funds from the general public and organizations that are willing to help underprivileged people in Nepal. They also plan organize, execute, and evaluate activities in Nepal for uplifting the living standard of rural Nepalese people; especially in areas affected by natural disaster and poverty.

All Hands Volunteers (Now All Hands and Hearts), Ecuador

I volunteered to help build permanent core bamboo homes in San Miguel, Ecuador that were damaged in the earthquakes of April 2016. I didn't use my photography services as much but just volunteered my time and construction knowledge.

On April 16, 2016, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake and violent aftershocks occurred in Ecuador destroying roads, bridges, and power supplies to the regions surrounding the Esmeraldas and Manabi  province. The damage to the country’s infrastructure appears unprecedented, with over 20,000 people left without homes. The death toll reached 660; more than 2,500 people have been injured. In the Manabi province, 22,754 people moved into shelters and 16,185 households were destroyed or damaged.
